Busy Start of the New Year for Butler Township Fire Departments |
On January 1, 2008 at 16:28 hrs Station 4(Lyndora), 7(South Butler), 3(Meridian), 99 (Butler Ambulance) were dispatched to 427 Bessemer Ave. for smoke in the basement. Upon arrival of Chief 4(Keibler) found smoke conditions in the basement of the residence. Engine 4 arrived and crew investigated with TIC. Rescue 7 arrived and crew assisted in locating the fire which remained contained to a dryer in the basement. Once the contents of the dryer were extinguished personnel removed the dryer to the street. PPV fans were used to evacuate the smoke conditions.
On January 7, 2008 at 07:59 hrs Station 4(Lyndora), 7(South Butler), 3(Meridian), 99(Butler Ambulance) were dispatched to heavy smoke inside the Lyndora Bakery at 8 Chesapeke St. Upon Chief 4(Keibler) arrival found smoke conditions on the 2nd floor side C of the structure. Chief 7(Mazzanti) arrived and took Operations. Ladder 4 arrived and pulled a 1.75" class a foam attack line up a ladder on side D and through a service entrance. Smoke was found to be coming from buring insulation located above the masonary baking oven located on the 1st floor. Rescue 7 laid a 5" supply line into Ladder 4 and crews were sent to the 2nd floor to assist with overhaul. Personnel were on scene for 2hrs and had to return later for another flare up.
On January 8, 2008 at 04:36 hrs Station 4(Lyndora), 3(Meridian), 5(Greenwood), 99(Butler Ambulance) were dispatched to a apartment fire at 1302 Villa Dr. Upon arrival of Chief 4(Keibler) found heavy smoke coming from the 10 unit garden style apartment complex. Chief 4 called for a 2nd alarm of Station 6(Mercer Road), 7(South Butler), 9 (East Butler). At the time of arrival it was noted that there were NO occupants outside of the structure. Chief 3(Huey) arrived soon after and took Operations. Both Chief's and 3 Butler Township Police Officers(Sgt. Murphy, Ofc. Mores, Ofc. Kuss) began to evacuate the occupants from the building. Ladder 4 arrived along with Rescue 3 and crews were directed to the interior for search and rescue as well as the exterior to ladder the building to assist trapped occupants. Engine 3 with Engine 5 behind them laying a 4" line arrived and began fire attack in the apartment located in the basement area. Rescue 7 & Engine 7 arrived and were directed to ladder side C of the structure and rescue the trapped occupants from their balconies. Station 11(Pen Twp) responded with Rescue 11 for their cascade system. Fire was quickly extinguishd and all occupants were rescued without incident or injury.

At 00:43 hrs. on October 15, 2007 South Butler (Station 7), Lyndora (Station 4),Penn Twp (Station 11) and Butler Ambulance (Station 99) were dispatched for a possible structure fire on Vogal Rd. in Butler Twp. Upon arrival of Chief 7-2 (Henshaw) found nothing showing from the exterior but moderate smoke on the 2nd floor of apartment B. The building contained 5 residential living units which were all evacuated. Resident of apartment B stated that she was awakened by her dog prior to smelling any smoke or the activation of the smoke detectors. Engine 7 arrived and deployed a crew with a 1.75" attack line and Thermal Imager. Rescue 7 arrived and laid a 5" supply line into Engine 7. Additional responding companies were placed into staging. During the search for origin of the fire personnel found that the high voltage heating element had shorted out to the side of the furnace. PPV fans used to clear the smoke conditions. |
